Papers of Alan F.S. Mackenzie pertaining to World War II [manuscript], 1939-1946.

The collection contains souvenir items collected by Mackenzie to chronicle the movements of the 83rd Infantry Division from Normandy to the Elbe River, including army newspapers; pamphlets on the role of the 83rd; U.S. and German military maps; photographs of bomb damage in Cologne and St. Lo; a casualties list; and an estimate of the Division's combat strength. Also a series of letters requesting the release of an S.S. officer held as a prisoner of war by the Allies; notes on the surrender and disposition of 20,000 Germans captured at Beaugency; Nazi souvenirs including a naval forage cap; [Belgian?] ration cards; and "safe passage" leaflet fired behind German lines to encourage surrender. Also postwar pamphlets on the Nuremberg trials and the liberation of Dachau; and other memorabilia and souvenirs.
